Coffee is linked to a redu?ed risk of developing prostate ?an?er among men, a??ording to a US study released in the Journal of the National Can?er Institute on Thursday.
Resear?hers at the Harvard S?hool of Publi? Health said men who drink ?offee on a daily basis are around 20 to 60 per?ent less likely to develop any form of the disease ? with a higher intake linked to a lower risk.
The men least likely to develop lethal prostate ?an?er were those drinking six or more ?ups of ?offee a day, but even those drinking no more than three ?ups a day lowered the risk by 30 per?ent, the study found.
The study looked at about 48,000 men in the United States who work as health professionals.
Every four years between 1986 and 2006, they were asked to report their average daily intake of ?offee.
The resear?hers said it was the antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ?ompounds ?ontained in ?offee that affe?t the body?s insulin levels and sex hormone levels, both of whi?h have been linked to prostate ?an?er.
They said that more resear?h would be needed to isolate whi?h ?omponents of ?offee might be responsible.
