Abnormal psychology is the branch of psychology that studies unusual patterns of behavior, emotion and thought, which may or may not be understood as precipitating a mental disorder The people are called as an abnormal is they who do something that out of the other people?s behavior.
Normal and abnormal is not always having similar connotation as good or bad. If that abnormal behavior is making someone feel annoyed or it would disturb the other people, it is also called as abnormal psychology and it maybe need some health mental interventions. There are some approaches that are used by the mental health professionals. First, that is behavioral approach. It just focuses on the client behavior not the main causes. Second, that is medical approach. It focuses on the mental or the biological illness of the client. It might include genetic inheritance, related physical disorders, infections and chemical imbalances. Third, cognitive approach, it is focus on the client?s internal thought, perception, and reasoning contributes.
Cognitive behavior therapy is used to handle some behavioral disorders and something that reflected mental health. And for example is the ?Aaron Beck Cognitive Behavior Therapy?. It uses to understand the technique to solve mental illnesses. Cognitive behavior therapy is a psychotherapeutic approach to solve problems concerning dysfunctional emotions, behaviors and cognition through a goal-oriented, systematic procedure. What are the techniques of the cognitive behavior therapy?? Here are several therapies for Psychological disorder :
- Cognitive Rehearsal it means the client tells about the problem and the therapist try to understand it.
- Valid Testing uses to know the client?s thought and belief
- Keeping A-journal, it is the process to recorded the client?s information into journal
- Guided Discovery, They have to know about their problem, especially their cognitive distortion, so in this therapy the therapist guides their patient to discover their problem.
- Modeling, this kind of therapy is used when there is hard situation.
- Homework, the assignment that given by the therapist to client.
- Aversive Conditioning, giving stimulus to the client with unpleasant situation and find out the reaction of the client or the client?s reaction is tested.
- Systematic Positive Reinforcement, the therapist gives positive reinforcement by certain behaviour to the clients, slowly the client will be implement it in their daily life.
Some psychologists use dream interpretation to get a better description about the disease. They used it to know how the disease is appeared and how to stop and handle it. Knowing the information about these disorders is very useful to make us more ready to deal with the situation.
For the conclusion, cognitive behavior therapy is a form of psychotherapy that emphasizes the important role of thinking in how we feel and what we do. It haves some techniques to handle the mental illness. There are cognitive rehearsal, the valid testing, keeping A-journal, guided discovery, modeling, homework, aversive conditioning, and systematic positive reinforcement.
