Fred Evans survived a scare against Canadian Custio Clayton to guarantee Great Britain?s fifth boxing medal of the Games last night. Canada were so aggrieved with the outcome they launched a late appeal against the result last night. ?Unbelievable, obviously it?s a dream come true,? said Evans, who will fight Taras Shelestyuk in the semi-finals. ?I?ve been watching it [the Olympics] since I was a child. ?To be here now myself and knowing I?m going to have an Olympic medal around my neck is unbelievable.? Evans admitted he ?switched off a little? after taking a 7-2 lead in a remarkable opening round. The victory was a boost for Great Britain after European champion Andrew Selby was beaten 16-11 by Cuban Robeisy Ramirez Carranza in their flyweight quarter-final. PICTURES: Images from London 2012
