The next best thing to actually visiting Europe to view art in all its glory is to enjoy the masterpieces found in Stephen Farthing?s?Renaissance Art Pop-Up Book. Each of its ten pages is filled with descriptions of key pieces of art from some of history?s most influential artists. You?ll see Giotto?s frescos, and work by Caravaggio, Botticelli, Titian, and Durer. Some pieces are removable from the book with hidden information or trivia found in secret places. What pop-up engineer David Hawcock has done with mere paper with amaze you. The pop-up process seems overwhelmingly difficult when you see up close how the folds and supports must work so succinctly tougher to make the image pop up and then lay flat. Innovating ?pops? include? The Arnolfini Portrait by Jan van Eyck which depicts a merchant and his wife posed in a room. The text surrounding the pop up describes the painting?s symbolism. The reader can peek into the room?s nooks and crannies and study the furniture behind the figures. It?s quite amazing. Michelangelo?s?Flying Machine comes to life as a carefully created pair of wings. Most spectacular is the pop-up interior of the Sistine Chapel. You?ll feel as if you?re there.
